On Sunday 28th May Middlesbrough represented Croquet North in the Secretary’s Shield, playing away at Bury in glorious conditions. Unfortunately the opponents’ excellent hospitality off the lawns was not matched on them, and Bury won 6 - 1. Results were as follows Morning Roger Staples and Nigel Roberts lost to Chris Alvey and Tony Phillips 15 - 16 Julian Gibson beat Anne Alvey 18 - 15 Nigel Drurie lost to Ged Smolskow 13 - 26 Afternoon Roger Staples lost to Ged Smolskow 2 - 26 Nigel Roberts lost to Tony Phillips 17 - 18 (golden hoop) Julian Gibson lost to Chris Alvey 18 - 26 Nigel Drurie lost to Anne Alvey 11 - 12 (golden hoop) Thanks to Bury for their hospitality and some very competitive games of croquet.
