The annual Pennine Cup was contested on Sunday 13t August at a largely sunny Pendle Croquet Club. The competition consists of 3 doubles matches in the morning and 6 singles (usually 3 advanced and 3 handicap) in the afternoon. The early exchanges went largely in favour of the North West and with 20 minutes to go it looked like it might be 3-0 to them at lunch, but a good run in two of the games, including Nigel Durie going round to peg out in the last turn to tie the scores and then winning on golden hoop, meant that the Croquet North team had a 2-1 lead at the break. In the afternoon the position kept changing as games finished and the scores reached 4 - 4 before the NW won the final match to retain the trophy. Many thanks to Pendle for providing the facilities and Liz Wilson for the bacon butties, and to both teams for an excellent match.
